Chris Barry Ph.D.

Chris Barry, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Washington State University. He is also a licensed psychologist in the State of Washington. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical from The University of Alabama with a concentration in clinical child and adolescent psychology. Dr. Barry has three primary areas of research interest: a) risk and protective factors related to child and adolescent behavioral problems; b) social media engagement in relation to self-perception, mental health, and well-being; and c) evidence-based assessment of child and adolescent psychological difficulties.

More specifically, his work has focused on self-perception (e.g., narcissism, self-esteem) and callous-unemotional traits as they relate to various aspects of youth adjustment, particularly aggression and delinquency. Further, Dr. Barry’s research on social media has investigated narcissism as a correlate of social media posts and how those posts are perceived by others; social media use in relation to adolescent and college student mental health, and variables that appear to shape social media experiences (e.g., fear of missing out [FOMO], loneliness, joy of missing out [JOMO]).
