About

Jean Kim, M.D. is a psychiatrist and writer. She was formerly on the psychiatry faculty at George Washington University, Weill Cornell Medical College, and Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC. She has an M.A. in Nonfiction Writing from Johns Hopkins University and has been a nonfiction fellow at the Writers’ Institute at the Graduate Center of CUNY. Her work has been published in The New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, The Washington Post, Salon, The Daily Beast, The American Scholar, Dame, Aeon, etc. She has also provided expert quotes on mental health issues in media articles from The New York Times, NBC News, BBC News, The Huffington Post, Vice, Rolling Stone, Prevention, and more.

She received her B.A. in English from Yale University and her M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia and did her psychiatry training at Mount Sinai. She has worked with the Women's Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, active-duty soldiers at Fort Meade, MD, and diplomatic personnel at the State Department.
