Robert Burriss, Ph.D. has held scientific research posts at the University of Basel, Northumbria University, Stirling University, and the Pennsylvania State University. He has also taught at the University of Liverpool and the University of Chester.

Burriss is an evolutionary psychologist and most of his research is about human attraction. He is interested in how the ovulatory cycle and hormonal contraception influences mate preferences, jealousy, and appearance. He has also published research on Islamic veiling, voting behavior, scarring and attractiveness, assortative mating (whether opposites attract or repel one another), and mate choice copying (how we prefer partners who are preferred by others).

Between 2009 and 2019, Burriss produced The Psychology of Attractiveness Podcast, a show that reveals the science behind human sexuality. His research on the ovulatory cycle was featured in a National Geographic Channel documentary series, and his work has been covered in Men's Health, The Atlantic, The Telegraph (India), The Telegraph (UK), NBC Today, BBC Radio 4 (UK), The Guardian (UK), The Times (UK), CBC (Canada), among others.
