Ryan Smith, Ph.D., is an experimental psychologist and neuroscientist focused on understanding how the brain processes information. He has Master’s degrees in Neuroscience and Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Psychology. During his career to date, he has published over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters covering a range of topics, including interoception, emotion, consciousness, memory, and decision-making. He is currently a Research Associate Professor at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research, where his lab studies the way information processing in the brain may be affected in depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. By uncovering differences in perception and decision-making mechanisms, his lab hopes to uncover new treatment targets for improving mental health.
