Jennifer L. Murphy, Ph.D., is Director of Behavioral Pain Medicine for the Veterans Health Administration, and lead manual author for the VA’s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain treatment. In her previous role as Clinical Director of the Tampa VA’s inpatient Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program, Murphy provided clinical oversight for participants during opioid tapering. She is an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine and serves on the editorial board of Pain Medicine.

Samantha Rafie, Ph.D., is a pain psychologist on the faculty at the University of California San Diego's Health Department of Psychiatry and the San Diego Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. She is a leader in program development and behavioral pain treatment in primary care through tertiary-level programs, including functional restoration, opioid tapering, medication-assisted treatment, and detoxification. Rafie is a founding member of the Alliance to Advance Comprehensive Integrative Pain Management’s pain policy congress, and one of a small number of psychologists fellowship-trained in chronic pain management.
