Suzann Pileggi Pawelski, MAPP

Suzann (“Suzie”) Pileggi Pawelski, MAPP, is a freelance writer, well-being consultant, and international speaker specializing in the science of happiness and its effects on relationships and health. Her 2010 Scientific American Mind cover story, "The Happy Couple," was the catalyst for Happy Together: Using the Science of Positive Psychology to Build Love That Lasts, the best-selling book that she wrote with her husband James.

Named a best book of 2018 by Business Insider, Success magazine, and The Greater Good Science Center, Happy Together has also been featured in Time magazine, Inc. magazine, New York magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine, Parade magazine, People magazine, NPR, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, and The London Times, among others. On his show Larry King Now, the legendary talk show host said he wished he “would’ve had this book twenty years ago.”

As a contributing editor for Live Happy and columnist for the newsletter of the International Positive Psychology Association, Suzie profiled many of the field’s leading scientists and featured their groundbreaking research.

Together, Suzie and James pen a popular blog on relationships for Psychology Today and give Romance and Research™ workshops around the world. Additionally, they recently launched a 12-lesson online relationship course titled Building Love That Lasts for “Wondrium” (formerly “The Great Courses Plus”).

Previously, Suzie directed award-winning media relations campaigns in New York City for Fortune 500 clients, worked in publicity at Radio City Music Hall, and was an associate producer for The Joan Rivers Show, where she featured leading health and medical authors on the Emmy Award-winning program. She has a Master of Applied Positive Psychology degree from the University of Pennsylvania and is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She uses her certification in health coaching to help people make better food and lifestyle choices.

Dr. James Pawelski, Ph.D.

James Pawelski, Ph.D., is a Professor of Practice and Director of Education in the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, where he co-founded the world’s first Master of Applied Positive Psychology Program with Martin Seligman. An award-winning teacher, he is the Founding Director of the Humanities and Human Flourishing Project, which has been designated a National Endowment for the Arts Research Lab. In his role, he leads a network of more than 150 international scholars, researchers, and practitioners investigating connections between the science of well-being and engagement in the arts and humanities.

Having earned a doctorate in philosophy, he is the author of The Dynamic Individualism of William James, co-editor of The Eudaimonic Turn: Well-Being in Literary Studies, co-editor of On Human Flourishing: A Poetry Anthology, and co-author (with his wife Suzie) of Happy Together: Using the Science of Positive Psychology to Build Love That Lasts. Additionally, he is the editor of the Oxford University Press book series on the Humanities and Human Flourishing and co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of the Positive Humanities.

He is a collaborative leader, serving as the Founding Executive Director of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA), a member of the Provost’s Wellness Advisory Group at the University of Pennsylvania, a member of the executive committee of the International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies, and a past president of the William James Society.

An international keynote speaker who makes presentations in Spanish as well as English, he has presented in more than 20 countries on 6 continents, including "Romance and Research” (TM) workshops with his wife Suzie. He is frequently featured in the media, including the New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Today Show.
